Pinoy Idol and Ateneo vs. UST

Mon., September 25, 2006

10,000 singers from every province auditioned for a chance to be crowned Philippine Idol. The nation watched, listened and voted -- now it is down to the final 12. Drae Ybañez is one of those 12. If Drae looks and sounds familiar it is because he has been part of our Victory Fort and Galleria worship teams for several years. He also works with Children's Garden, a ministry to street children, and he brought several of his fellow Idol contestants to church last week. Next elimination is September 30. I usually do not get involved in Philippine politics, but this time I want to encourage everyone to vote for Drae.

My sons and their friends were at game 1 of the Ateneo-UST UAAP championship series last night at Araneta Coliseum. One second left. UST up by one. Thousands of yellow-clad fans think they have won. Ateneo throws the ball in from half court. Doug Kramer (Baguio FilAm from Victory Fort) catches and shoots. Ateneo wins by one at the buzzer. Thousands of Blue Eagle fans go wild. For all my American readers, the UAAP Championship is like the NCAA final 4, and for all Every Nation people not from the Philippines, Araneta will be the venue for our 2007 World Conference. Hope to see some of you at the Big Dome in July 2007.
