The Difficulties of Spiritual Leadership

Tue., October 17, 2006

While on my cross-trainer this morning, I was listening to Warren Wiersbe on www.SermonIndex.net talking to Baptist pastors about the difficulties of spiritual leadership. He mentioned four. Here's one of the four.

Warren Wiersbe said that when he was a young pastor, about 50 years ago, he wrongly thought that as he got older, preaching and leadership would become easier. In reality, according to him, the older he gets the harder it gets.

Why? Because when we are young, we tend to get away with depending on our gifting, natural talent, training, and knowledge. As we grow older, according to Warren, we can no longer just preach a good sermon, we must have a word from God. And, getting quiet and still enough to hear from God is one of the difficulties of leadership. This is true of all levels of spiritual leadership, whether you are a pastor or a parent. To be good leaders, we must take the time to fellowship with and hear from God.
